The Real Taste of Rome

We suggest you take a look at two previous articles in this blog. The first related to ‘Sora Anna’ (Revenge of Non Celebrity Chefs) and the second on the subject of ‘Made in Italy beefburgers’ (McAsiago) to get a feel for the opposing gastronomic poles to be found in the Eternal City at the moment (putting kebabs and sushi aside obviously).

But let’s get back to center ground and the heart of Roman Cuisine. To be precise, Testaccio, where our friend Kenny Dunn has put together a wonderful food tour of the historical and spritual home of not only AS Roma football club, but the city’s traditional cuisine.

His ‘Real Taste of Rome’ has it all, from seven food stops making up a full course meal over the three hours of the tour, to the incredible history of this neighborhood located on the final curve in the River Tiber before the old trading boats would see the ancient city.

Kenny actually lives in Testaccio and encourages the curious visitor to experience Rome as much as a local as possible. As he says himself:

“One of Rome’s greatest charms is its faithfulness to its own traditions. In many ways life in Rome is just like it has been for the last 2000 years. In today’s world this is unheard of for a major international city. And there is no better way to experience Rome’s traditions and its romantic charm than through the city’s cuisine. Every year way too many tourists leave Rome without eating even one delicious meal. We here at Eating Italy Tours consider that a tragedy. Rome’s food and its old-fashioned neighborhood culture are our favorite aspects of living is this historic city”.
